We have just put together a Guide to Copyright Licensing for our Creators’ Legal Program members. It’s a free guide that walks business owners through the issues that are important to consider when licensing copyrights to another person or business.
Why A Guide to Copyright Licensing?
In our work with creatives, we realized that many business owners were not aware of the value of their copyrights and how to license them to generate additional revenue. On the other hand, in our work with companies who wanted to get permission to license someone else’s work, we realized that issues sometimes came up that could have been avoided with clearer information.
If you do creative work or work with people who do, it is crucial to understand how copyright licensing works. It’s not difficult, but there is a ton of misinformation out there that can lead to confusion, mistakes and missed opportunities. Our goal is to fix that by providing high-quality, reliable legal information from attorneys who work with copyrights day after day.
What’s In The Guide to Copyright Licensing?
Our Guide to Copyright Licensing gives readers an overview of how copyright licensing works and then walks through questions that anyone should consider before entering into a copyright licensing agreement. This includes important items like the scope of the copyright license, what’s included in the license, what media is covered and what happens when things go wrong.
As with any of our guides, our goal is to provide businesses with the knowledge that will help them to avoid disputes and misunderstandings. Also, we know that the more that our clients understand the law, the more efficiently we are able to work with them in putting together an agreement that benefits them.
Members of the Creators’ Legal Program can access this guide (and other templates) for free.
