This month our featured client is The Kloons, a comedy trio and viral production team comprised of Greg Washburn, Mitch Lewis, and Nik Kazoura. Widely known for their YouTube channel, The Kloons have been featured on Ellen and The Huffington Post. The guys also operate The Kloons Viral Studio, a space where viral content is strategized, produced, and marketed. Check out their amazing work!

The Kloons were featured on Ellen. What lessons did they learn from their time in the spotlight?

A: The entire Ellen experience was incredibly valuable for us, and mostly in ways we didn’t expect. It was all terribly exciting, and naturally, quite disappointing as we built up all kinds of wild expectations around what would come from it. Most importantly we learned to keep expectations low when approaching higher profile opportunities and to remember that this whole business is completely made up.  We started making videos because we loved doing it, getting tangled in the business stuff kind of derailed the passion for a bit, fortunately we were able to find it again. I think a lot of people imagine that if you “make it” to some degree it will make you happier. Going on Ellen was a wonderful experience, but it was insanely temporal, suddenly we were right back in our daily grind as if it never happened. This served as a powerful lesson to really start accepting the more ordinary, mundane moments in life.

Why would YouTube creators like The Kloons seek out legal representation?

A: We decided to find legal representation because we’ve had several opportunities come up in the last couple of months and needed someone to help us work through everything.  In addition, we wanted to learn about the process, which is why the Creators’ Legal Program was so attractive to us.

Q: Any Personal Favorite Sketches? (The Kloons or others)

A: We have many favorite sketches and creators.  I’m not sure if it’s because we’re in the comedy world, or if we’re just drawn to it as humans, but we spend quite a bit of time watching what others are making.  It’s quite inspiring to see the work of others, the way they are articulating their experience. Of our work, I’d encourage people to watch Life in a NutshellSurprise StorePrada Body Bag and Cross Fit.
