Let’s start from the beginning here. In short, and at the risk of sounding grandiose: I’m on a mission, and the goal of that mission is to help creative professionals and businesses use the law to their advantage. Whether that means writing books or blog posts or billing for my services, I am always looking towards the goal of making the law more accessible and affordable to people in creative fields.

To that end, I started “Creators’ Legal Program”, which I am rolling out to a limited number of members over the next few months (see below for how you can sign up).

The Creators’ Legal Program Offers A New Model For Legal Services

The Creators’ Legal Program offers a new model for legal services. Instead of paying hourly, or per-project, members of the program pay a fixed monthly fee (starting at $95 a month) to get unlimited phone calls and unlimited contract reviews (plus discounts on hourly services). All by an attorney who understands how creative work gets done.

The Creators’ Legal Program offers a way for creative people to have access to routine legal services without worrying about a giant bill.

So Why Do It?

  • I saw that people hesitated to call an attorney, and sometimes that made problems worse. Nobody wants to feel like they are being nickel and dimed, especially by their attorney. Because attorneys have traditionally billed hourly, each phone call or email becomes a source of uncertainty for clients. The Creators’ Legal Program takes away that uncertainty, so that when you have a legal question or just wants to get clarity on a legal issue, it is easy to get in touch with a lawyer – before things get complicated.
  • I saw that people wanted a more predictable legal budget. Every business has expenses: rent, insurance, office supplies, postage…and legal. Having a predictable legal budget makes it easier to plan and to grow your business.
  • I want to make routine legal services affordable. Some legal services are fairly routine and predictable, some are complex. The Creators’ Legal Program offers a way to get access to the routine services that don’t necessarily need to be expensive.
  • I want to understand my clients’ businesses better. My hope is that members of the program use it regularly, so that I can better understand how their business works and, as a result, give better advice that is more tailored to their concerns.

How Do You Join?

Right now, the Creators’ Legal Program is in limited beta, meaning I will only be accepting a limited amount of new members over the next few months. If you want to join before the program fills up, visit the Creators’ Legal Program page and sign up.
